Tamil Department aims to provide socially conscious, Linguistically Skilled, intellectually competent, creatively thinking, critically analysing and personally committed education. Taking into consideration, the immediate needs of our society and enhancing the values of justice, equality, liberty and development. Tamil Department strives hard to promote these values in its educational programmes.

  Objectives
1. To give practice to students to pronounce, speak and write the Tamil language perfectly.
2. To have an in- depth understanding of Tamil language & literature and relish it.
3. To bring to the world's notice, the greatness of our Mother tongue which has become a classical language.
4. To help to know the values and realities of life and make them socially conscious through Tamil Literature.
5. To come to know about the Linguistic aspects and variations in style through Ancient Tamil Grammar.
6. To give an opportunity to students to know literatures in other languages and also to translate those thoughts into Tamil.
7. To build confidence in the students, to face the highly competitive world and successfully avail job opportunities through our syllabus.

Highlights of Tamil Language & Literature Program
UG:
Part I Tamil will be given in Two Levels for Tamil Major and all other major students. Elective course offered in two levels for non tamil Students.

Major:
Study of Tamil Literature at various ages (from Sangam to Modern age), Grammar and Linguistics, Folklore, Journalism, Comparative study of Tamil and Malayalam Literature, Festivals and Nature and Life.

Allied:
History of TamilNadu and Culture
